MA 12 [BRA]    Theobroma cacao

 Vello, F. & Medeiros, A.G. (1965)
Expedicao botanica a Amazonica brasileira. Cacau Atualidades (Brasil) 2: pp. 47-51.

Derivation: MAnaus city.
Collected by Vello.
Location: Careiro Island, Manaus, Brazil.

Lockwood, 1973a [LOC73A]. Fruit - large with thick shells, Beans - small.

Notes:  Vello & Medeiros, 1965 [VEL65A] Collections made in 1965.

Bartley, 1997b [BAR97B] MA 1, MA 2 and MA 3 are not related to the rest of the series, in that they are selections made from seedling progenies planted in a CEPLAC experimental station near Manaus. This material was selected from locally cultivated varieties from a number of different trees planted in the Itacoatiara area, known to have been planted with cacao for over 200 years. Three selections were made from outstanding trees not necessarily representative of what was generally cultivated.

MA 11 onwards are Vello's collections.
