The disease and production index (DPI) was developed to integrate a genotype's tolerance to Moniliophthora roreri and other diseases as measured by Percentage Diseased Pods (PDP), but to take into account its production potential (PT).The development of the DPI was based on data collected over four years (February 2011 to December 2015) from an experiment carried out by INIAP at the Pichilingue Tropical Experimental Station in Mocache, Los Ríos province, Ecuador. In this experiment, 30 clones were planted in March 2008 using a randomized complete block design with replicated five-tree plots (Jaimez et al., 2018). The data obtained were used to calculate PDP and DPI for each clone for three different disease combinations: frosty pod rot alone, pod rots other than frosty pod rot, and the combination of all pod rots. For each clone, the number of healthy pods (NHP) was counted during each harvest process together with the number of pods with external symptoms of frosty pod rot (FNDP), and other diseases (Witches' Boom and Black Pod infections) to give the total number of diseased pods (TNDP). Fresh weight of seeds was pooled for each tree (SFW) and recorded during each harvest time.
